An Allstate Company · Sold Through Independent Agents
To you, it's just National General.
National General is an Allstate company, and its personal lines run through independent agents like us — not a captive channel. It reaches a wide range of drivers and homes, from bruised records to higher-value, because the tiering that makes that possible sits inside the policy, not on a menu you shop. Your part is one National General policy; sorting which one fits is ours. And because we also hold the Allstate contract on the same A+ paper, we can run both and tell you which wins.
Short Answer
Cribb Insurance Group is an independent agency in Bentonville, Arkansas holding a National General-branded contract — separate from our Allstate-branded contract, though both sit on the same paper. We place eight lines through it: auto, home, renters, condo, landlord, umbrella, RV and commercial auto. National General is an Allstate company whose personal lines run through independent agents, and it fits a broad range of records — but that tiering is internal to the policy. The US National General companies are members of Allstate Insurance Group, which AM Best affirmed at A+ (Superior), stable, on August 28, 2025.
We hold both contracts. Same paper, two doors.
This is the piece that's invisible from inside one company, so it's worth leading with. National General and Allstate are the same rating unit — the same A+ balance sheet. They're two different doors onto it, each with its own appetite and its own pricing on your specific risk. Cribb holds both contracts.
So when someone asks "is Allstate better than National General, or the other way around?" the honest answer is: nobody knows until it's run. There's no rule of thumb that survives contact with an actual quote — it comes down to your roof, your record, your vehicles, your history. A captive Allstate agent can run Allstate. They cannot run our National General contract, watch it come back cheaper with better coverage, and tell you so.
We don't have to guess, and we don't have a stake in the answer
We run both, put them side by side, and quote them against our other 40-plus markets while we're at it. Then you're looking at the answer instead of somebody's opinion about it. Seven lines — auto, home, renters, condo, landlord, umbrella and RV — sit on both of our contracts, which is exactly where this matters most.
How one carrier fits so many records.
National General reaches from bruised records to higher-value homes and autos. That range is real, and it's useful — but here's the part worth being precise about: you don't shop it. The tiering that lets one carrier fit so many situations is internal to the policy. To you it's one National General policy; placing you correctly is our job.
Internal placement — you don't pick this, we handle itBruised records
Non-standardLapses, tickets, claims, thin credit — the risks standard carriers decline. National General's historic core.
Standard drivers
StandardThe everyday middle — a clean-enough record looking for a fair rate on real coverage.
Preferred
PreferredClean records and package accounts that qualify for the better placement.
Higher-value
Higher valueHigher-value homes and autos toward the top of what National General writes.
The only levels you actually choose
Where you do get a say is coverage level. National General's Custom360 product surfaces that as a real choice — for auto, Signature (lean, add-what-you-want) versus Elite (a more robust package built in through one endorsement); its property product has its own levels. That's the decision that's yours to make, and the one we walk through with you. The underwriting placement behind it stays internal.
Eight lines through our National General contract.
Not everything National General writes nationally — what Cribb Insurance Group can actually place for you in Northwest Arkansas through this contract. Commercial auto is the only commercial line here.

Where this contract stops
Commercial auto is the only commercial line here. General liability, commercial property, workers' compensation and BOP don't come through National General for us — they run through our other commercial markets. Start a commercial quote and we'll tell you which one fits.
Motorcycle, ATV, boat and mobile home aren't on this contract either — those go through our Allstate contract. Same rating unit, different appetite. In a market with Beaver Lake on one side and a side-by-side in half the garages, that's not a footnote.
Cribby reads the policy, not the brochure.
Cribby the Chameleon is our guide to reading a policy in plain English.
A chameleon blends into wherever it lands — which is the point of a carrier that quietly fits itself to your record. You don't work the machinery; you get one National General policy. Cribby's here for the plain-English version: what's actually covered, where it stops, and whether National General or our Allstate contract fits you better.
A+ (Superior) — and which company that describes.
A rating is a solvency opinion, not a claims opinion
AM Best is explicit that a Financial Strength Rating does not address a carrier's claims-handling practices and is not a recommendation to buy or keep any policy. So an A+ (Superior) tells you these companies can pay. That's real and worth knowing — it just isn't the same question as how a claim will go. Different questions, different sources. Anyone handing you a letter grade as the answer to all of them is handing you a logo.
What we actually do at a claim
Narrower than some agencies imply, and we'd rather be straight about it. We don't adjust your claim and we can't overrule an adjuster.
What we do: tell you whether a claim is worth filing before you file it, make sure the coverage that should respond gets identified, chase the file when it stalls, and move you to another of our markets — including our Allstate contract — if National General stops fitting. That last one is the part a captive agent structurally cannot do.

Product names, coverage levels, internal underwriting placement, discounts, limits, eligibility, program terms, and availability vary by driver, by property, by state, by policy, and over time, are set by the carrier, and are subject to underwriting review and approval and to the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions of the policy actually issued. Financial strength ratings are opinions of an insurer's ability to meet its ongoing insurance obligations, are subject to change, and are not recommendations to purchase, hold or terminate any policy, nor do they address an insurer's claims-handling practices; current ratings are at ambest.com. The A+ (Superior) rating referenced applies to the members of Allstate Insurance Group as affirmed by AM Best on August 28, 2025; National General Insurance Ltd. (Bermuda) is a separately rated entity carrying a different rating. If anything here conflicts with the issued policy, the policy controls.
