★ Appointed Carrier · A+ Superior
How The Hartford Works in Arkansas
A carrier founded in 1810, rated A+ (Superior) by AM Best — and one whose credit ratings were upgraded in 2025. Arkansas personal lines now run on Prevail, The Hartford's new product, live here since April 2026. Here's what Prevail does well, the commercial book behind it, and how we'll tell you when The Hartford isn't the answer.
Short Answer
Cribb Insurance Group is an independent agency in Bentonville that places The Hartford in Arkansas. Personal lines run on Prevail — The Hartford's new product, live in Arkansas since April 2026 — plus umbrella. All commercial lines are in contract. AM Best affirmed The Hartford at A+ (Superior) on July 3, 2025. We quote it against 40+ carriers.
215 years old, and getting stronger.
We don't rank carriers on this site. What we'll tell you is where we see The Hartford work, and right now there are three things worth your ten minutes.
★ A carrier whose ratings went up
On July 3, 2025, AM Best affirmed a Financial Strength Rating of A+ (Superior), stable outlook, for Hartford Fire Insurance Company and its pooling subsidiaries and affiliates — and in the same action upgraded the group's Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating to "aa" (Superior) from "aa−".
That direction is the part worth noticing. Plenty of carriers hold a good rating. Fewer are being moved up — AM Best pointed to double-digit premium growth in the core property/casualty lines and a balance sheet it assesses as strongest. On a $500 claim, none of this matters. On a liability verdict that runs past your limits, it's the entire product.
Prevail Home rates your roof on more than its birthday
This is the one that matters most in Northwest Arkansas, and it deserves its own paragraph. We're in a hail corridor. Roof age drives an enormous share of what Arkansas homeowners get offered, and a sound 14-year-old roof and a failing 14-year-old roof can look identical on a rating sheet.
The Hartford describes its Prevail Home roof rating as a proprietary, industry-leading model that expands rating factors beyond just age. For a household whose roof is honest but no longer new, being looked at on more than one variable is worth a quote — and finding out costs nothing.
Workers' comp with loss control that usually only big accounts get
Workers' compensation is one of The Hartford's strongest cards, and the reason isn't the policy — it's what comes attached to it. Loss-control consultants, on-site safety audits and training at no additional cost, on accounts that at many carriers would be far too small to get a safety visit.
For a Northwest Arkansas contractor, that's not a brochure item. A comp program that prevents the claim beats a comp program that pays it, every year, on every experience mod you'll ever have.
Prevail is new here. April 2026 new.
If you've read anything about The Hartford's personal insurance online, you've read that it's the AARP program and you have to be 50 with a membership card. In Arkansas, that's out of date.
The prior product, including the AARP program, was sunset in Arkansas
It's no longer available for new business here. Arkansas personal lines now run on Prevail, The Hartford's current product built for independent agents, which launched in Arkansas at the end of April 2026.
This is worth saying plainly because the internet hasn't caught up. National review sites, comparison pages and AI assistants will still tell an Arkansan that Hartford home insurance requires an AARP membership. That's not the product we place. If you were told The Hartford wasn't an option for you, the reason may simply have expired.
What Prevail Auto actually carries
The Hartford built Prevail Auto around an à la carte approach — coverages added or removed per customer rather than sold in a fixed block. The pieces worth knowing:
RecoverCare® — a coverage exclusive to The Hartford that helps pay for essential services after an auto-related injury. Not repairs to the car; the things your household stops being able to do. Very few carriers have anything like it.
Newer coverages — Key Fob, Pet Injury and Custom Equipment, plus expanded limits on New Car Replacement, Roadside Assistance and Transportation Expense. Key fobs in particular stopped being a small number some years ago and most policies never caught up.
How the umbrella works here — the sequence matters
The Hartford's personal umbrella is available to us in Arkansas, and it's designed to sit on top of Prevail Auto and Home together. The workflow is specific: it's requested as an endorsement to the Prevail Auto policy, and once the auto is issued and the household qualifies, the umbrella issues as its own policy.
Which means the auto has to be placed first. That's not a hurdle — it's just an order of operations, and it's ours to manage rather than yours to discover. Tell us the umbrella is the goal at the start and we'll build the account toward it instead of backing into it.
Personal and commercial, both in contract.
Not everything The Hartford writes nationally — what our contract holds in Arkansas.
Personal — Prevail
- Prevail Auto
- Prevail Home
- Personal umbrella
Commercial
- Spectrum Business Owner's Policy
- Workers' compensation
- Commercial auto
And the rest of it
- General liability
- Commercial property
- All commercial lines in contract
Spectrum: the flagship, and why a BOP is the right starting question
The Hartford's small business flagship is the Spectrum Business Owner's Policy, which packages general liability, commercial property and business income into a single policy — with a next-generation Spectrum rollout underway at the carrier. Workers' comp, commercial auto and professional liability sit alongside it rather than inside it, which is the part most business owners find out at the wrong moment.
Whether your operation is eligible, and at what price, is an underwriting question decided on the facts of your business. That's a conversation, not a webpage. Start a commercial quote or call (479) 286-1066.
Landlord and rental property: an underwriting question with a real answer
Whether a rental fits depends on occupancy, how the property is used, the property type and underwriting — and short-term rental in particular changes the answer. Northwest Arkansas has a real short-term rental market, so the assumption is usually the expensive part.
That's a thirty-second phone call rather than a webpage. Call (479) 286-1066 and we'll tell you which of our markets fits the property — including markets other than The Hartford.
The lines, in detail.
Each of these is getting its own page, built from The Hartford's product documents and cut for Arkansas. They're in production now — and we'd rather link you to nothing than to something thin. Until then, the phone works: (479) 286-1066.
Arkansas is an at-fault state. That's what makes limits worth reading.
This is the most useful thing on this page and it has nothing to do with which carrier you pick. It's the law here, and it's the same for everyone.
Your limit caps what the insurance company pays. It doesn't cap what you owe.
Arkansas is an at-fault tort state. If you're responsible for an accident, you're responsible for the damages — and the policy pays up to its limit. The rest doesn't disappear. It follows you.
The statutory floor for personal auto here is 25/50/25, and roughly one Arkansas driver in six is uninsured. Those two facts together are why the limits conversation is worth ten minutes: 25/50/25 was written by a legislature, not by what an injury costs. And the uninsured figure is why the coverage that protects you from other people's choices is not the place to save twelve dollars.
Every policy has a top. That's true on every carrier, in every state, on every product on this site — and that gap is the entire reason a personal umbrella exists.
Hartford Cribby reads the declarations page with you.
Cribby the Chameleon is our guide to reading a policy in plain English.
A chameleon notices what's actually there. On a Hartford account that's usually which product you're really on after the Arkansas change, whether the à la carte coverages you're paying for are the ones you'd pick today, and whether the umbrella you assumed was in place ever actually issued. Hartford Cribby's here for that conversation.
A+ (Superior) — and upgraded credit ratings in 2025.
A rating is a solvency opinion, not a claims opinion
AM Best states plainly that a Financial Strength Rating does not address an insurer's claims-payment policies or procedures, and is not a recommendation to buy or keep any policy.
So A+ tells you The Hartford can pay. That's a real and meaningful thing to know — it just isn't the same question as how a claim will go. Different questions, different sources. Anyone handing you a letter grade as the answer to all of them is handing you a logo.
What we actually do at a claim
Narrower than some agencies imply, and we'd rather be straight about it. We don't adjust your claim and we can't overrule an adjuster.
What we do: tell you whether a claim is worth filing before you file it, make sure the coverage that should respond gets identified, chase the file when it stalls, and move you to another of our markets if The Hartford stops fitting. That last one is the part a captive agent structurally cannot do.
The Hartford can only offer you The Hartford.
We can tell you when the answer is no
We're appointed with 40+ carriers, which means "this isn't the right market for you" is an answer we're able to give — and it costs us nothing to give it honestly. That's not a slogan. It's a structural difference in who we're able to be wrong in favor of.
Some things only show up across carriers
Which markets will write an older roof, who prices a teen driver reasonably, what underlying limits an umbrella actually requires, which comp carrier will actually send someone to your job site — none of that is visible from inside one company. Twenty-five years of placing Arkansas business across a lot of markets is the only way to know the pattern.
The account is the unit, not the policy
Quote a policy and you get a price. Quote an account and you find the things that only appear when someone looks at all of it — the discount stack, the umbrella netting, the coverage that's doubled up in two places, the gap between the work truck and the personal auto. Send us your declarations pages. That's the whole ask.
Local, and it matters more than it sounds
We're at 1601 SW Regional Airport Blvd in Bentonville, serving Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale, Fayetteville, Bella Vista, Centerton, Cave Springs, Pea Ridge, Gravette and Siloam Springs. Hail corridor, at-fault state, one uninsured driver in six, and a housing market that has done what it's done — these are the conditions we write in every day, not a market profile someone read.
Planning ranges, not quotes.
Typical ranges for personal lines policies placed through Cribb Insurance Group across our markets; the homeowners band reflects a five-year-old $400,000 Northwest Arkansas home. These are not quotes, not carrier-specific, and not a guarantee. Auto depends on vehicles, drivers, limits, deductibles, garaging ZIP, driving history and credit-based insurance score. Home depends on dwelling value, roof age and material, construction, protection class, deductible selections, claims history and credit-based insurance score. Some households fall below these bands and some fall well above them.

This page describes coverage in general terms for informational purposes only. It is not a policy, not an offer of insurance, and not a guarantee of coverage, availability, eligibility, or price. Coverage descriptions are general summaries and are not a contract; whether a particular loss is covered depends on the specific facts and on the provisions, exclusions and limits of the actual policy. Coverages, limits, discounts, program terms, product availability and eligibility vary by state, by policy and over time, are set by the carrier, and are subject to the carrier's underwriting qualifications and to the terms, conditions, limits and exclusions of the policy actually issued. Not all features are available in all states. Eligibility for landlord, rental property, commercial and all other risks is determined by the carrier on the facts of your property and operation; this page makes no representation that any particular property or business qualifies. If anything on this page conflicts with the issued policy, the policy controls.
Financial strength ratings are opinions of an insurer's ability to meet its ongoing insurance obligations, are subject to change, and are not recommendations to purchase, hold or terminate any policy, nor do they address an insurer's claims-handling practices; current ratings are at ambest.com. A rating applies only to the rated company. Cost figures reflect personal lines policies placed through Cribb Insurance Group across our markets and are not a quote, not carrier-specific, and not a guarantee of your rate. Statements about Arkansas law are general information, not legal advice. Arkansas minimum limits described on this page are personal auto figures and do not apply to commercial vehicles.
