Off-road — where your home policy stops.

Here's the trap most riders never see coming: your homeowners policy might cover the four-wheeler in your yard, but the moment you trailer it to a trail, it's on its own. Foremost's off-road program — written by Foremost Choice and Signature — covers ATVs, UTVs, side-by-sides, dirt bikes, golf carts, and snowmobiles wherever you ride, with liability, physical damage, and coverage for your accessories and gear. Here's how it works, the tiers, and the Arkansas realities. From an independent agency that places it every day.

The short answer

Off-road is written by Foremost Choice and Foremost Signature; the combined Foremost360 platform doesn't write it. The program covers ATVs, UTVs, side-by-sides, dirt bikes, golf carts, and snowmobiles with liability, comprehensive and collision, uninsured-motorist, medical payments, plus accessory and safety-apparel coverage, in Value/Plus/Elite tiers. The reason it matters: your homeowners policy likely won't cover the machine off your property — which is exactly where you ride it. Backed by an A (Excellent) carrier group — and quoted against 40+ others.

Which Foremost writes this line

Two families write it, one platform doesn't.

Like motorcycle and boat, off-road is written by two of the three Foremost families. Your machine goes to whichever fits best.

Foremost's own words: don't insure a trail machine on a house policy.

Foremost puts it bluntly — you wouldn't drive your dirt bike down the stairs to your kitchen, so why insure it on a policy meant for your home? An off-road vehicle needs a policy built for how it's actually used. Because we write both Foremost off-road programs and represent 40 other carriers, we put your machine where the coverage and price fit — and bundle it with your home and auto for a package credit.

The gap most riders miss

Your homeowners policy stops at the property line.

This is the whole reason a dedicated off-road policy exists — and the assumption that costs riders the most.

On your land: maybe.
Off it: almost never.
the homeowners reality

A homeowners policy may extend limited coverage to an ATV or UTV while it's on your own premises. Ride off your property — a trail, a park, a friend's back forty — and that coverage typically disappears, right where most riding and most accidents happen.

Why "it's on my home policy" is a trap.

People assume the four-wheeler is covered because it's parked at an insured house. But home policies are written for a house and its premises — not for a machine bouncing down a trail miles away. The on-premises coverage they may offer is limited, and the off-premises exclusion is the norm, not the exception.

An off-road policy follows the machine instead of the address. It carries liability if you injure someone or damage property on the trail, physical damage if you roll it or it's stolen off the trailer, and coverage for the gear and accessories that a home policy never contemplated. For a modern side-by-side that can cost as much as a car, that difference is enormous.

What it covers

Auto-style core, off-road specialty on top.

The foundation

Liability

Pays for injuries and property damage you cause others while riding — the coverage that protects your savings and home if a trail accident turns into a claim against you.

Your machine

Collision & Comprehensive

Collision repairs or replaces your machine after a crash or rollover; comprehensive covers theft, fire, vandalism, and weather. For a financed unit, your lender will usually require both.

High on the trail

Uninsured Motorist

The off-road world has a lot of uninsured riders. If one injures you or damages your machine and can't pay, this steps in — a bigger deal off-road than most people realize.

Fault aside

Medical Payments

Helps with medical bills for you and your passengers after an accident, regardless of who's at fault — worth having on a machine built to carry riders over rough ground.

Winches & racks

Optional / Custom Equipment

Winches, cargo racks, LED light bars, lift kits, and other add-ons the factory didn't install — covered so the money you put into the build is protected, not just the base machine.

Helmets & goggles

Safety Apparel

Coverage for riding gear — helmets, goggles, and protective apparel — damaged in an accident, with the limit rising by package tier. The specialty touch a car or home policy simply doesn't have.

Coverages, inclusion, limits, and options vary by package tier (Value, Plus, Elite), by program, by vehicle type, and by state; some coverages are optional. The issued policy and endorsements control.
Choose your level

Value, Plus, or Elite.

Like the motorcycle program, off-road coverage comes in tiers so you pay for the protection your machine calls for.

Value Basic & affordable
  • Core protection at the lowest cost
  • $500 helmet & safety apparel
  • Available optional equipment (ACV)
  • Good for a stock, lower-value machine
Plus Balanced
  • A balance of coverage and price
  • $1,500 helmet & safety apparel
  • Optional equipment for quads & sleds
  • The middle-ground pick
Elite Most protection
  • The broadest coverage and highest limits
  • Best for high-value or heavily built machines
  • The full set of specialty features
  • For riders who've invested serious money

One program, a whole garage of machines.

The off-road program isn't just for four-wheelers. It covers ATVs, UTVs and side-by-sides, dirt bikes, dune buggies, golf carts, and snowmobiles — and if you own more than one, insuring them together can earn a multi-unit discount. Whatever's parked in the shed, we can usually put it on one policy.

What Arkansas requires

"Not required" isn't "covered."

The honest read for Arkansas riders.

For an off-road vehicle ridden off-road on private property, Arkansas generally doesn't require you to insure it the way it requires auto insurance. But that's not the reassurance it sounds like — three things quietly create real exposure:

You financed it. If there's a loan on the machine, the lender almost always requires comprehensive and collision coverage until it's paid off. You ride beyond your own land. Public trails, parks, and other people's property often expect — or effectively require — coverage, and it's where liability risk lives. You assumed your home policy has it. As covered above, that coverage typically ends at your property line. Put together, "the state doesn't require it" and "you don't need it" are two very different statements.

Arkansas requirements and rider rules for off-road vehicles (including any age, supervision, or safety-training rules for younger riders) are general information, not legal advice, are subject to change, and are governed by current Arkansas law and the policy actually issued. Verify current requirements and riding-area rules before you ride.
Discounts

The ones worth mentioning.

Foremost rewards bundling, insuring more than one machine, and experience in the saddle.

The big lever

Multi-Policy / Bundle

Insuring your off-road machine alongside a home, auto, or other Foremost policy earns a package credit — and across the Foremost families you can mix and match and still bundle.

A whole fleet

Multi-Unit

Own more than one ATV, UTV, or sled? Insuring them together can earn a multi-unit discount — built for the household with a machine for everyone.

Time in the saddle

Experienced Rider

Seasoned riders may qualify for reduced rates — experience counts off-road the same way a clean record does on the street.

Ride smart

Safety

Safety equipment and qualifying factors can help — always worth asking about, especially if you've completed a rider-safety course.

Strength & what we do

Backed by an A (Excellent) group.

On August 1, 2025, AM Best affirmed the Financial Strength Rating of A (Excellent), stable outlook, for the members of the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies — the group behind the Foremost companies that write this coverage in Arkansas. A financial strength rating is an opinion about an insurer's ability to pay claims; it doesn't grade how a specific claim is handled, and it isn't a recommendation to buy or keep a policy. Different question, different source — the current rating is at ambest.com.

Where we earn it on an off-road policy.

The off-road mistakes are specific: a machine riding on nothing but a homeowners assumption that ends at the property line, a built-up side-by-side with no accessory coverage, a financed unit missing the physical damage the lender requires, and no liability for the moment a trail day goes wrong. We catch those at the quote and match the policy to where and how you ride. We don't adjust your claim and can't overrule an adjuster — but we'll tell you whether a claim is worth filing, make sure the right coverage responds, chase the file when it stalls, and move you to another of our 40-plus markets if Foremost stops fitting.

What it costs

The machine and how you ride set the number.

No sticker price on this page

Off-road premium turns on the type and value of the machine, your coverage and liability limits, physical-damage deductibles, your accessories, where and how often you ride, and your record. A stock youth quad, a built side-by-side, and a snowmobile price on completely different logic. Too many variables for a webpage figure to mean anything, so we won't post one. This isn't a quote or a guarantee. What reliably helps: bundling with a home or auto, insuring multiple machines together, and right-sizing your accessory coverage. Liability-only is the least expensive route; adding physical damage and custom-parts coverage costs more but protects the investment. Send your declarations page and we'll build the number with you.

Frequently asked questions

Foremost off-road questions.

Which Foremost writes ATV and off-road vehicle insurance?

Two of the three Foremost families write it. Foremost Choice covers off-road vehicles as part of its specialty book, and Foremost Signature also writes ATVs. The combined Foremost360 platform does not — it handles auto, home, landlord, and umbrella.

The Foremost off-road program covers a wide range of machines: ATVs and four-wheelers, UTVs and side-by-sides, dirt bikes, dune buggies, golf carts, and snowmobiles. We place both programs and match your ride to the right one.

Doesn't my homeowners policy already cover my ATV?

This is the single most important thing to understand, because the answer surprises people. A homeowners policy may provide limited coverage for an ATV or UTV while it's on your own property — but it almost certainly excludes coverage once the machine leaves your premises.

The moment you trailer it to a trail, ride the back forty on someone else's land, or head to a park, that homeowners coverage typically disappears — and off your own land is exactly where most riding and most accidents happen. A dedicated off-road policy is what follows the machine wherever you ride.

Does Arkansas require ATV insurance?

For an off-road vehicle used off-road on private property, Arkansas does not mandate insurance the way it does for cars — but "not required" is not the same as "covered." Three things commonly change the picture: if you financed the machine, your lender will usually require comprehensive and collision coverage; if you ride on public land, park trails, or someone else's property, coverage is often expected or necessary; and your own homeowners policy likely won't cover the machine off your premises.

So while the state may not force the issue, going without coverage leaves real, expensive exposure. We help you weigh it honestly rather than sell you something you don't need.

What does a Foremost off-road policy cover?

The core coverages mirror an auto policy — liability for injuries and property damage you cause, collision for your machine after an accident, comprehensive for theft, fire, and other non-crash losses, uninsured-motorist protection (valuable given how many riders carry nothing), and medical payments.

On top of that, the off-road program adds the specialty pieces: coverage for optional and custom equipment like winches, racks, and LED lights, and safety-apparel coverage for helmets and goggles. Foremost offers Value, Plus, and Elite tiers so you can match protection to what you ride and what you've invested.

Can I cover my UTV, side-by-side, golf cart, or snowmobile too?

Yes. Foremost's off-road program isn't just for four-wheelers — it covers ATVs, UTVs and side-by-sides, dirt bikes, dune buggies, golf carts, and snowmobiles. Modern side-by-sides in particular are substantial investments that carry passengers, which makes both liability and physical-damage coverage worth serious attention.

If you own more than one machine, insuring them together can also earn a multi-unit discount. Tell us what's in the garage and we'll cover the whole fleet.

How do I get a Foremost ATV quote in Arkansas?

Foremost is agent-only, so an appointed agency like ours is how the coverage is bought. Start at our personal lines quote form or call (479) 286-1066. Have the year, make, model, and type of machine (ATV, UTV, side-by-side, dirt bike, golf cart, snowmobile), any added equipment, and where you ride, since use shapes the coverage.

If you carry a current declarations page, send it; reading what you have is faster than answering questions about it, and it's how we check your liability, physical damage, and accessory coverage actually fit how and where you ride.
